Building Bridges, Beats, and Brains with Mrs. B.
Alliteration. I love alliteration...maybe even to a fault. There is something about the way the words sound when making their way along the page and out of our mouths as they are spoken, that makes language fun and delightful! Without me even explaining that I love alliteration, you could probably already guess this characteristic about me by name and subtitle of my blog. In conjunction with my love for alliteration, lies further meaning into what this blog will share moving forward.
"Mrs. B's Brainy Beats: Building Bridges, Beats, and Brains"- A title that I'd like to "unpack" (this phrase brings me memories of PLC meetings working to unpack the standards). So, let's start at the beginning...with me...Mrs. B.! I am Mrs. Burcombe (Mrs. B. for short) and I have been a Kindergarten teacher for the past 5 years. This year, I am actually taking one year away from my classroom. While, I was in the classroom, one of my favorite things to do was to turn popular songs into learning tools for my students (Hence, "Brainy Beats"). This hobby continues to grow, as I create videos and upload them to YouTube to share with students and educators around the world. Now that we have my main name explained, let's delve into the subtitle (won't be long, seeing as there are really only two other words not covered in the explanation above...hahaha).
Outside of education, I am extremely interested in two things: building relationships with other people and traveling. These two interests coincide quite frequently and, many times, also collide with my passion for education. As mentioned, above, I am taking a year away from my role as a classroom teacher. One of the reasons I am doing so is to connect with and learn from educators around the world! Building "bridges" with one another is a powerful way for us to grow as educators and human beings. I hope to continue to build bridges, beats, and brains in a very intentional way this year and to share my joyful, jet-lagged (at times) journey, with you, along the way!
